Biennial or perennial herbaceous plant. The stem, which is longitudinally streaked and branched , reaches heights of 150 cm. The umbrella shaped flower is yellow and the leaves are dark green. Sow in seedbed in April and transplant in in June for harvest in Autuman or Spring. Or sow in summer and transplant in the autumn for harvesting the following summer. The leaves make one of the most popular dressings in the mediterrean traditon.

The seeds are frequently used to aromatise cold meat , sweets and liqueurs.
