Perennial. Characteristic plant for pergolas, curtains or balconies. Has modest requirements but prefers sunny, not overly fertile soils. Restrict fertilising to springtime only. Flowers the year after sowing. Overwinters well if cut back to 10 cm from the ground and covered with straw or other material. Sow in glass-topped seed trays or in the ground, covering the seeds with a thin layer of compost. Transplant once the seedlings have 6-8 real leaves.
