Our recent playground landscaping project in Sham Tseng has transformed a simple sitting-out area into a fresh, colourful green space for families to enjoy. Surrounded by sports courts and residential towers, this playground now feels like a small urban oasis where children and adults can relax between games and daily routines.
Design concept
The planting layout follows soft curves around benches, pathways and light poles, creating a continuous green edge that guides visitors through the space. We used low, fine-textured groundcovers along the paving to define borders clearly.
Plant selection
To suit the warm, coastal climate, we chose hardy shrubs and foliage plants that offer year‑round colour with minimal maintenance. Taller accent plants frame the fence line and structures, while mid-height flowering shrubs add seasonal blooms and attract butterflies, giving the playground a lively, welcoming feel.
Sustainability and maintenance
All selected plants are drought‑tolerant and suited to exposed conditions, reducing watering needs and improving long‑term resilience. With simple pruning, occasional feeding and regular mulching, this playground garden will continue to mature and provide Sham Tseng residents with a relaxing green corner for many years to come.
