Big leaves.
A lighter living space.
The 130–150 cm Monstera brings height and generous foliage to a simple room. A pale wall and open floor area let its leaf shapes stand out.
Choose a bright spot with filtered light, leaving space around the leaves. Keep it away from air-conditioning outlets and protect it from harsh afternoon sun.
Planting & styling guide
How do I repot and support a climbing Monstera?
Set up the climbing frame
- Identify the main stem separately from the long leaf stalks.
- Choose a stable draining pot only slightly larger when roots need room.
- Fit the support carefully, avoiding unnecessary damage to roots.
- Tie the main stem loosely; leave leaf stalks free to move.
- Keep the planting depth and check the support after watering.
Support the climbing stem
Loosely secure the main stem to a stable support, leaving leaf stalks free. Guide flexible aerial roots gently; avoid forcing them against painted walls.
How do I manage broad leaves in a Hong Kong flat?
- SunlightFace the leafy side towards bright filtered light. Leave clearance from curtains and walls so new leaves can open freely.
- WateringInspect the lower mix in a deep pot before watering. Empty the decorative planter; the support pole does not tell you how wet the root ball is.
- Leaf care & feedingSupport broad leaves while wiping them. Do not force open an unfurling leaf or cut healthy aerial roots simply to make the plant look tidier.
- Balcony windMove it to shelter before strong winds: large leaf blades and a tall support need more clearance than the pot alone.
How do I balance Monstera’s spreading shape?
Keep the Monstera at the back or side with room to spread. Group companions in separate pots without blocking access to its support.

Frequently asked questions
Monstera Deliciosa · Monstera deliciosa
Why do some leaves have no holes?
Young Monstera leaves can be whole and heart-shaped. Splits and holes become more pronounced with maturity and suitable light. Extra fertiliser will not make every new leaf split immediately.
Read moreMust aerial roots go into the soil?
No. They are normal climbing roots. Guide flexible roots towards the support if practical; do not force stiff roots into the pot or against a wall.
Read moreDoes it need a support pole?
Monstera is a climbing plant. A stable support helps guide taller growth. Attach the main stem loosely and leave leaf stalks free; aerial roots are a normal part of the plant.
Read moreWhere should I put it if I have pets?
Keep it out of reach of pets and children that may chew leaves. Monstera contains irritating oxalate crystals; its sap can also irritate skin. Wear gloves when pruning and treat it as an ornamental plant.
