Glossy greens.
A calmer work corner.
The larger option sits comfortably beside low furniture. Keep the spreading leaves clear of drawers and walkways.
Place it where window daylight reaches the foliage. A dimmer position needs more patient watering, not a weekly top-up.
Planting & styling guide
When does a ZZ plant need a larger pot?
Make room for rhizomes
- Settle the plant in its current pot first.
- Check for a tight, crowded root ball or a pot distorted by expanding rhizomes.
- Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes, not a much deeper empty container.
- Keep the previous planting level and use a freely draining mix.
- Wear gloves when handling cut or damaged tissue; keep it away from children and pets.
A larger pot is not a growth shortcut
Repot to relieve crowding, not to force shoots. Excess unused wet mix can stay damp for too long indoors.
How do I avoid overwatering in an office?
- Agree on one carerLet one person check the plant and record watering, so colleagues do not all add a little water.
- Check below the surfaceLet the mix dry between waterings. When water is needed, wet the root ball thoroughly and let excess drain away.
- Keep the natural glossGently wipe dusty leaflets. Leaf polish is unnecessary; do not add fertiliser simply because new shoots are slow.
- Before a holidayCheck soil moisture and daylight access. Do not leave the nursery pot standing in a bowl of water for the weekend.
What pairs well with its arching glossy leaves?
Use separate pots and leave each plant its own light and watering space.

Peperomia Obtusifolia(Baby Rubber Plant)
A low cluster of rounded leaves suits the front of a console display. Check its moisture separately.

Frequently asked questions
ZZ Plant · Zamioculcas zamiifolia
Can it live in a windowless room?
Low-light tolerance does not mean no light. Choose a spot with daylight, or provide suitable plant lighting; do not use an unlit room as a permanent position.
Read moreWhy has it not made new shoots?
Growth indoors can be slow. Check light and root conditions before increasing water or feed. A firm, healthy plant does not need to be pushed into constant new growth.
Read moreDoes yellowing mean it needs more water?
Not by itself. Check the mix and stem bases: persistently wet soil with soft tissue needs attention. An occasional old yellow leaf alone does not justify extra watering.
Read moreIs it suitable around curious pets?
Keep it out of chewing reach. Ingestion can be harmful and sap may irritate skin or eyes. If safe separation is impractical, choose a different plant.
