Frequently asked questions
Nandina domestica
Will the leaves turn red?
New growth and cool-season leaves often turn reddish, but sunlight and temperature matter; Hong Kong's mild winters may give less colour.
Will it definitely have red berries?
Berries depend on plant maturity and season; fruit on arrival is not guaranteed.
Is it safe for pets and children?
The ASPCA lists it as toxic to cats and dogs, and Hong Kong's Hospital Authority lists the whole plant as poisonous. Keep children and pets away.
Can I keep it indoors?
It does best on a balcony or rooftop with direct sun; long spells indoors in low light make it sparse.
