Frequently asked questions
Cuphea
Is it a true heather that requires cold moorland conditions?
No. Mexican heather is Cuphea, a different plant. Use its tropical-subtropical growing needs rather than heather care.
Can it form a low neat edge?
Its fine branching suits a low edge when light and spacing are adequate; trim lightly and avoid waterlogged bases.
Will it flower throughout the year?
Flowering varies with season, plant maturity and light; an evergreen habit does not mean continuous flowers.
Can I keep the crown tightly clipped?
Repeated clipping may remove flowering wood. Plan the shape and time pruning around the plant’s flowering habit.
