Frequently asked questions
Sweet Osmanthus
Why is a healthy green plant not fragrant today?
Scent comes mainly from the small flowers. It varies with the flowering cycle and weather, not simply the amount of foliage.
Will frequent trimming increase flowers?
Repeated clipping can remove developing flowering growth. Allow shoots to mature between light shaping.
Will it flower throughout the year?
Flowering varies with season, plant maturity and light; an evergreen habit does not mean continuous flowers.
Can I keep the crown tightly clipped?
Repeated clipping may remove flowering wood. Plan the shape and time pruning around the plant’s flowering habit.
